Wednesday Waste – Is Anyone Listening?

Well this week wasn’t bad at all.  This was all I had to toss out…..

Some lemon and lime wedges.  I did save the plastic bag and washed it for reuse.

Clearly I didn’t drink enough wine spritzers this week…  😉

Oh, note to self… I need to pick up some seltzer water…  thanks for reminding me.  (am I talking to myself now, through my own blog?  and did I answer?  weird!)

The ZMan and I set up our recycling system and our compost system and it’s really working out well.  This system makes the amount of garbage we have now very minimal.  So much so that we’ve cancelled the trash pick up service and now it’s just a matter of tossing a garbage bag into the bin a couple of times a week.

We have to take our recycling to the same location as the garbage bin, so it just made sense to save the additional cost of trash pick up.

I am a little disappointed that our county doesn’t recycle glass though.  I mean hello… wine bottles!  Do I need to say anymore?  Am I really going to have to go back to drinking boxed wine?

Well, yes… yes I am.

I found this great red that I’ve been enjoying.   Even the ZMan likes it.  Not that I ever expect to convert him from beer, nor do I want to (share that much, lol), but it’s nice to enjoy a glass of wine together every now and then.

The problem with a boxed wine is that you can’t “see” how much is exiting the box.  You have to rely on the pour level and glass count.  (yes I said glass count, and yes I “sometimes” have more than one glass)  Oh, wow excuse me while I pull myself together, that was just too funny!!!!  One glass!!!  LOL!!!  Really!!!

What I mean is you can’t look at the box and say, oh half the bottle is gone (already) and pretend to be shocked.  🙂

Anyway, if you like a full flavored but lighter side red then you should try it out.  Actually, boxed wines have come a long way and there are some really good ones out there now.

And, isn’t that just grand for me now that I can recycle the box and not worry about the glass bottles piling up on me.

Did you have any waste this week?  Have you checked??   Is anyone listening???

Grilling Chicken

The weather is beautiful today and in the mid 70’s which means I’m going to grill out tonight.  Which also means I’ll be beating my chicken tonight, just like this….

All you need is some kind of heavy object.  A small pan would work too.  I prefer using my rubber hammer that I actually stole from the Z Man’s work bench.  Ssshhhh 🙂

Put the chicken breast in a ziplock bag and have at it.

Really whack it!  It’s kind of fun actually in a therapy kind of way, but much cheaper,  trust me I KNOW!!!!

By beating the meat it creates the same thickness across the whole chicken breast, which means that it will cook evenly.

You know how chicken breast are thicker on one side, well by the time that side cooks the rest of the breast is dry.

Dry breast is not what I want.

After you beat the chicken, throw some seasoning on it, which I most often just use salt and pepper.

Toss it on the hot grill and cook it till the juices run clear.

(When you are grilling meat don’t try to flip it until it lets go easily,  just trust it.  If you do you’ll tear the meat)

I love the warmer weather where the dinners consist of charred meat and some type of veggie.  So easy, less clean up and GOOD FOOD!

Monday Money

The winner of the giveaway is Patti.  Thanks for taking the time to read my blog Patti!!!   You’ve been e-mailed.

NOW….

*** Alert ***   A bit of a rant to follow….

Sometimes people / companies just take advantage of you!!!

Maybe you remember that a little over a month ago I purchased a workout video program that I can do at home in 25 minutes.

I do like the videos and the work outs, but let me tell you I was this  close to sending the whole thing back last week.

When I placed my order, I did it over the phone.  I didn’t order it on line I actually called and spoke to a real person.  And I remember very specifically declining all the additional things she tried to sell me.

I specifically said to her, “I only want the workout videos, nothing else”

No vitamins, no memberships, nothing additional, just the workout videos.

So, imagine my surprise when I got in the mail last week a 90 day supply of vitamins from this company.  I immediately went and checked my online statement and yep, I was charged $39.92 for vitamins and $40.93 for a membership fee.

WHAT A SCAM!!!!  They kept my card number on file and continued to make unauthorized charges to it without my consent!!!    I’m sorry, but that to me is very bad business practices.

When I called I was told that with a purchase you automatically get enrolled into the membership program and vitamin supplement program.

Imagine at that point my head almost blowing off.  GGGRRRRRR!!!!

Ultimately, I was able to have all the charges removed from my card but only after spending about 20 minutes on hold and learning that the refund will take about 3 days to process.

So I have the added bonus of monitoring my account waiting for the refund.    You know, because I have nothing better to do with my time.

I’m still on the fence about this company having any of my business at all,  and I still may return the original product.  I’ll keep you posted, ’cause I know you want to know 😉

Has anything like this ever happened to you?    How did you handle it?

I wonder how many people don’t realize they have been charged, or don’t take the time to correct the issue?  I’ll bet that’s what the company is counting on, that people wont take the time to complain.         GGGRRRR again.

OK, I’m gonna stop ranting now nut lesson learned.  The thing to take away from this is to always check your statements and make sure you’re not being charged for something you didn’t authorize.  Check your cable and internet bills, all of them and make sure you’re not being overcharged.

It’s our money, they don’t get to take it from us without our consent.  Make those calls if needed.  We can’t step over pennies for dollars.  Pennies add up to dollars.

Friday Fun

It’s Friday!!!   It’s Friday!!!  Yea Yea!!!  Yea Yea!!!

You knew I was going to start off with that didn’t you?  🙂

On this fun filled Friday I need to remind you that you have until Sunday at 6:00 pm (EST) to register for the giveaway mentioned in last Friday’s post.

All you have to do is leave a comment in last friday’s post about something you read and hopefully enjoyed from any of my blog post last week.

The ZMan will randomly pick a winner by choosing a number from the number of comments received.

I’ve been blogging daily on ZLifeBlog since I started it and I’ve really been enjoying it!   But, we are coming into the “harvest season” at my job, which means I will be working longer days and more hours.

While I am very grateful to have my job, and a job that I enjoy, the harvest season also means that I may not be able to continue to blog daily.

I will do my best to blog daily, because I know it’s important to you!   😉   But just in case I don’t….   Well, I just don’t want you to worry about me and the ZMan, so I thought I should let you know.       🙂

Tonight is pizza night.  YAY!

Thanksgiving 2013 044

The rest of the weekend will be more spring cleaning, and I would like to try to get some seed potatoes in the ground, but I think it will be too wet.

Look at our little tomato plant sprouts…  aren’t they cute!

Blog Food Pics 068

Not a great picture (I know) but we have started about 30 plants that will provide tomato juice, pizza sauce, and spaghetti sauce for us through next winter.    But let’s not talk about next winter!!!

These little plants remind me that warmer weather really is on the way.   I love a homegrown tomato sandwich in the summertime.  YUM!

What plans do you have this weekend?

I hope you have a fun Friday and a lovely weekend!
